In the previous query I stated that Victor, Howard, Hugh and Orin were Charlotte Bostwick's uncles. They were her brothers. Sorry, a case of fingers and mind not working together.

Would love to hear stories of Maskell and Hooker Twp. My mother was Charlotte Bostwick - daughter of Guy and Christina Bostwick - and, granddaughter of Christian and Maria/Mary Martinson. My mother and all of her siblings are gone now so I have no one to ask. Would like to hear of stories of the area and/or of the two families. I know my mother's uncles, Victor, Howard, Hugh and Orin, loved baseball and often played on the town team. I can remember sitting on Grandma Bostwick's porch and seeing games taking place across the road at the ball diamond. My Grandparents were active in the Methodist Church. Would appreciate any stories on the communities and/or the family. Thank you - Mary Ann

Looking for information on my Bostwick family. I am looking for information on my great grandparents - Charles H. and Emma and their children - Etta, Guy, Frank and Annice. In 1892 Emma Bostwick and several of her children joined the Ponca Methodist Church. Soon after they joined the family moved to Pipestone, MN. Later in the early 1900's and perhaps before then, her children Etta, Guy, Frank and Annice returned to Dixon Co. Guy married Christina Martinson on Jan. 1, 1906 and remained in the Maskell area for the rest of his life. Would like to find out more about the family in the early years. Thank you for your help - Mary Ann <cematapey@aol.com>

I am attempting to locate the burial place of my great great great great grandfather, Dietrich Winter (b. ca 1804 Germany). The family record states he was buried at the Ponca Cemetery. In the late summer of 1856, Dietrich with his second wife, Anna Magdalena Sauer and their children, Louis, John, Anna Marie (Winter) Held, Katherine (Winter) Schneider, Henry, Elizabeth (Winter) Held, and Dietrich Winter arrived in what was to become Plymouth Twp., Plymouth County, Iowa (a defunct town known as Melbourne). After a few scares with the native Indians many settlers fled between Jackson and Ponca, Nebraska...the winters arrived in NE at that time. Going back and forth to Plymouth County for sometime as half of the family remained there. Two children can be found on the 1860 Census in Plymouth Twp. and 4 children are located in Saint John's, Dakota County, NE census of that year. However, the parents have not been located at this time. Dietrich Winter from all family records was to be buried at the Ponca Cemetery, Ponca, Nebraska. Does anyone have a Dietrich Winter identified from burial records at one of the Dixon County, Nebraska cemeteries?

I have a picture of a one room school house with 9 students, a teacher and a man ( in his 20's?). The black board held by the students said "Dist. No. 9". The back of the picture says "To Miss Lela Stevens from Gardner Peterson" . Lela Stevens was my Grandmother Lela Tesdall. I do not know who Gardner Peterson was. I can not pick out my Grandmother either. The Stevens family lived in the Daily area. I'm also still looking for a picture of the Grand Ridge school where my father taught.. I have also found a note that my Great-great-grandmother Minerva Jane Whitsett taught school in her home until the Jones & Sunnyside Schools were built. Where were those schools? Minerva and her husband William homesteaded in Silver Creek township. If any one has information on these families it would be wonderful!!

I have had many relatives live in and near Dixon County so I have several questions. My Dad, Elwin (Chet) Tedall taught school at the Grand Ridge School in the early 50's. Does anyone have a picture of the school? I do not care about the time frame I would just like a picture of the school. All I rember being there when I was little was the merry-go-round. Dad also taught at the Obert school and I do have a picture of it. My grandfather was Alfred Tesdall who ran the road grader when Neb. #12 was gravel. Alfred's parents were Halvor Tesdall and Adeline (Lena) Evensen. Lena parents were Severina Elisabeth Olsdatter Vinjum and Aad Evensen. Severina's parents also moved to Dixon County, Ole Nilsen and Abelu Larsdatter. These families lived in the Lime Grove, Lime Creek area. I have been trying to find the church records for these two churches. I had family who attended both according to the church histories. I'm trying to sort out the children of Severina and Aad Evensen. The grave stone dates can not be correct. The other part of my family was the Stevens. Alfred married Lela Steven. Her parents were Frank Stevens and Hattie Whitsett. Hattie's parents were Minerva Monroe and William Whitsett. These families setteled in the Silver Creek and Daily area. Any information about these families would be GREAT!! Sorry for the length of this posting. Roz Boyer
