Beller
Date: 4/14/01 I am seeking info on my gg-grandfather Josiah Hoover who came to Dixon Co. from Jesup Co. IA in 1870 and died in Ponca Apr 19, 1892. He and his wife Mary Jane Hostrawser had six children: Emma (my g-grandmother), Joe who married Abbie _____, Frank, Carl, Phebe who married Matt Johns, and Bet (Elizabeth?) who married Jack Shaw.
Emma Hoover married William Meyer in Ponca May 6, 1894.  William Meyer was the son of Albert Meyer and Huldah Myers. Huldah Myers was the daughter of Merlin Mudge Myers (b. Apr 14, 1825 Oneida Co. NY d. Jan 7, 1907 in Ponca) and Susan Valleau (b. abt. 1829 in Monroe Co. NY d. Jan 15, 1906 in Ponca).

Children of Albert Meyer and Huldah Myers were William, Pearl Meyer m. Charlie Kolb, Susy Meyer m. George Woods, May Meyer m. Orland Kniffel, Hattie Meyer m. Jim Beller, Lena Meyer m. John Scharff, Lizzie Meyer, and George Meyer m. Lillian Hubbard.

William Meyer, his wife Emma Hoover, their three children along with William's mother and father, and Emma's mother all went to Alberta, Canada in 1899.

I am trying to find the parents of Josiah Hoover.  Family tradition has mentioned a Katharine Burnhardt.  I have found a Catherine Barnhart who married a William Henry Hoover in 1821 in Mercer Co. PA. They moved to Keokuk, IA in 1844 and he died in 1860 in Cadiz, Greene Co. IA. Among their seven children is a Josiah Hoover (no other details but probably b. between 1820 and 1830). Josiah's daughter Emma was born in Jesup, Buchanan Co. IA in 1869; just before Josiah's family moved to Dixon Co. NE.  The other interesting point is that this Catharine Barnhart died Jan 4, 1891 in Hartington, Cedar Co. NE, just a relatively short distance from Ponca where my Josiah Hoover lived. I would like to determine whether this Catharine Barnhart is indeed the mother of my Josiah Hoover or not.

Finally, I would like info on a George Mattison who marrried Flora Ann Myers who was the daughter of Merlin Mudge Myers and Susan Valleau.

I would appreciate any info from anyone who recognizes any of the names above and I am willing to exchange any information. acmeyer@iinet.net.au (Allan Meyer)

Bostwick, Martinson, severson, Lake, Stukas
05/27/02 - My grandfather Guy Bostwick (born April 15, 1880) was born in New York state but came to the Ponca area with his family in the late 1880's or early 1890's; the family then moved to Minn.

He later returned and is found in the 1900 census boarding in Ionia. On Jan. 1, 1906 he married Christina MARTINSON in Lime Grove, her parents were Christian and Gunda Maria (OLSON) MARTINSON.

Maria had relatives in the Lime Grove area by the name of SEVERSON. Guy had an uncle by the name of George LAKE who married Alice AUSTIN in Ponca in the 1890's.  Guy's sister Annice married a STUKAS and had several children: Harold, Mary Jane and others. Guy's brother Frank married Irene STUKAS and they had Bill, Norwin, and Etta.

Guy and Christina ran a hotel in Newcastle for a short time in the early years of their marriage. He was a carpenter by trade and worked in the Newcastle and Ponca area besides traveling to Sioux City and other places.

The family lived in Sioux City several times but mainly lived south (?) of Maskell, out towards the Chris Martinson farm.  They had six children: Victor, Howard, Francis, Charlotte, Hugh and Orin. I know my Bostwick family but would appreciate stories about them.
Thank you for any help. Cecil and Mary Ann cematapey@aol.com

Davidson
Judy DaweThursday, 6/14/07, 1:55 AM My ggf, John Belle Lisle, settled in Dixon Cty north of Hiway 20 in Clark Twp in the 1880's with his family. The farm passed to my gf, Frank Leroy Lisle who married Margaret Myrtle Davidson in 1912; many of grandpa's siblings also married and lived in the area. G&G passed the farm to their daughter Janice Lisle who married Marvin Hartman who in turn passed it to their son Clayton Hartman and his wife Sandra Bloom. Marvin is now on a farmer nearer Dixon (where G&G also lived) and Clayton and Sandy live down the hiway from the "North" place, still in Dixon Cty. Clayton & Marvin still farm the land. I have many happy memories of the years I spent at both farms as well as others in the area with my cousins in Laurel, Cedar County (WICKETT & KVOLS). I am always trying to learn more about my family history and would enjoy hearing from others. Email: dawejudy@hotmail.com

Dickey,  William  b. 1833 d. 1897
Sam DickeyFriday, 10/6/06, 5:50 PM I¿m looking for information on William Dickey, my Great Grandfather. According to what I have learned so far, William was born about 1833 in Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland. He later immigrated to the U.S., reportedly as a youth. He was married in Philadelphia, PA, to Eliza McKinley on 20 October, 1864. He served in the Civil War from March, 1865 to December, 1865. Following his military duty he joined his brother Thomas in Mercer County, IL, where he lived for 5 years. In 1870 he moved to Dixon County, NE, and took out a homestead east of Newcastle near where Eliza¿s family had settled. William¿s siblings were identified by a great aunt as follows: Mary (Dickey) Woodside Betsy (Dickey) Montgomery Tom Dickey Ellen Dickey Jane (Dickey) Stewart and my Dad, Wm. Dickey It was mentioned that none of his siblings left Philadelphia except for the brother in Illinois and unfortunately, we have lost contact with all their descendants. My great aunt also mentioned that the grandmothers were distant cousins named Robinson, from Belfast. According to her, our ancestors from Northern Ireland were of ¿Scotch-Presbyterian¿ stock. Any information about William and/or his family would truly be appreciated. Email: sam-3rd@msn.com

My Great-great-great-grandparents were Ole and Abelu Nelson. I know that the Nelson name is very common BUT I'm try to match up the families that are related to me. I had found one source stating they did not have any children but I think they had at least 7. Child #2 was My Great-great-grandmother Severina Elisabeth Olsdatter. She was born in Norway, came to the US with her parents in 1857. Severina married Aad Evensen. Their daughter, Adeline married Halvor Tesdall. They were my Great-grandparents. My grandparent were Alfred and Lela (Stevens) Teadall. Child #3 of Ole and Abelus' was named Ole Nelson. He married Maren Otillan. They had at least 11 children but I have only found names of 8. Child #4 was Hans. He was born in Norway on 1 Mar, 1854. He left Norway with his parents but I have not been able to find out want happened to him. The 5th child was Tora or Thora. She as born in Minnesota. In the 1880 census she was listed as Tora Olson age 13. I have not been able to find her after that. Ole, Abelu, Aad, Severina, and several of Aad and Severina's children are buried in the Lime Creek Cem. I know there is an Ole and Nels that could be my Great-great-great-uncles too but I would like to know for sure. Also what happened to Hans and Tora? FITZSIMMONS
Tom Fitzsimmons Thursday, 4/22/04, 1:53 PM
My Father had an aunt named Ida Fitzsimmons, born in Fayette County, Iowa in June 1870 of Irish parents. I know she lived in Marshalltown, Marshall County, Iowa in March 1910 at the time of her brother's death and funeral. Ida was a schoolteacher. I have been unable to find anything about her until something turned up today in the 1910 U.S. Census. There was a Gertrude I. Fitzsimmons, a schoolteacher, age 38, born Iowa, both parents born Ireland. Something next that may connect with Dixon County is the name Gertrude Fitzsimmons as one of the teachers who served in Logan Valley School #77. Could this be the same Gertrude I. Fitzsimmons or Ida Fitzsimmons who I am seeking?

Fleetwood
Sherry OttmannSunday, 6/10/07, 3:35 PM I am looking for the graves of Johan August (Johannsson) Fleetwood, 23 AUG 1846 - 30 AUG 1924, and his wife Anna Marie Johansdotter, 08 DEC 1843 - 10 JUN 1920. They came from Sweden in 1894/95 and settled originally in Wood River, NE where they stayed until 1990. I have no clue where the family picked up the moniker of Fleetwood, but it was during their Americanization period. Is there a file on this family? He was a farmer near Wakefield. I have found some of their census records and a couple of published works and found portions of their story online. I've been able to track some of their children...a nurse, an attorney, and a doctor who moved out of the area. I have all of their names if you need them. I live in Lincoln. Please let me know what you have on the family. Thanks. Email: genealgurl@windstream.net

Francis
Jan. 2004, In the Nebraska 1885 Census George B. Francis and his wife Sarah E. (Myer) Francis were living in the Village of Ponca in Dixon Co. with their children Austin B. Francis born NY Aug 1867 and Anne E. Francis born 1874/5 NY. Does anyone know where or when these parents died or were buried, or the fate of their daughter?

In the 1900 Census the son Austin B. Francis was listed as a Lumber Merchant living in Ponca with his 1st wife Anna?    born 1870 NY (as were her parents) and three sons born in Nebraska, George A. Francis born 19 Oct 1892, Carroll S. Francis born 2 Dec 1894 and John F. Francis born 18 June 1896.  Does anyone have information about the marriage of Austin and Anna or know her maiden name or the identity of her parents?

In the 1910 Census Austin B. Francis was living in Ponca with his three sons and his 2nd wife Isabel? born about 1869 in Iowa.  Her father was born in England and her mother in Canada.  In the 1930 Census Austin was living in Portland, Oregon with his 3rd wife Ruth S. ? born about 1883 in Nebraska. Her father was born Pa. and her mother in NY. Does anyone have any information about the fate of the 1st or 2nd wife, the date of the 2nd or 3rd marriage, the maiden names of the 2nd or 3rd wifes or the identity of their parents?

Before 1930 Austin's oldest son George A. Francis had married Lois A. ? who was born in Carolina. Her father was born in Ohio and her mother in Iowa. Does anyone have any information about their marriage, know her maiden name or the identity of her parents?

In the 1920 Census Austin's 2nd son Carroll S. Francis was listed as a farmer living in Ponca, Dixon Co. Nebraska with his wife Irma A ?, who was born in Minn., son Carroll S. Jr. born about April 1918, and daughter Anne E. born about April 1920.  Irma's father was born in Ohio and her mother was born in Nebraska. Does anyone have any information about their marriage, know her maiden name, the identity of her parents or the fate of the daughter Anne E.?

Austin's youngest son John F. Francis married about 1925 Anna or Anda born about 1901 in Nebraska. Her father was born in NY and her mother was born in Nebraska. Does anyone have information about their marriage, know her maiden name or the identity of her parents?

By the time of the 1930 Census Austin and his three sons were all living in Portland, Oregon. Austin B. Francis, his mother, his sons and their children are all descendants of an ancestor of mine who fought in the French and Indian War and in the Revolution.  Any information on this family would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Jack Gillespy, descendant of (Major) John Gillespy (1741-1810) GillespyJ@aol.com

Glover
The Glover family of Dixon County circa 1920-45. I believe Jess Glover and his wife Alta were the parents of at least two girls, twins Margaret and Marguerite b. about 1921, and a son born much later, Private Glover, b.1942. Jess and Alta may have also had a daughter, Private, birthdate unknown but closer in age to the twins. I would appreciate any possible information you might be able to find and share regarding this family. Best Wishes, and thank you for your time, Deborah Barnard redheds123@aol.com
